Valentine Baby

I did a 3 month shoot with Meghan and baby, Grace. It was so much fun. I probably say this too much, but they were both great models! Grace barely fussed, Meghan was calm and flexible, and interacted with little Grace in such a neat way, it was fun to see the connection! I hope I captured it in some of these pictures.

These actually aren't even my favorite from the shoot! I have a few more, but I'm on vacation and I need to get down to the beach!

My co-worker allowed me to take his family's pics last fall. I couldn't believe how adorable these guys were. I wish I could use little Davian to practice on all the time, he is the perfect little model! And I loved how he took care of his younger brother.

Friends Forever

Tatyana came back and brought her gorgeous friends. We had a girl's afternoon in the city and once again she was rockin' those heals. They were so sweet to endure the cold.

They wanted friend pics so we tried to capture some of their bond with the handholding... Their idea, I thought it was so cute.

Through a deal on Living Social I was able to convince my husband to finally get some pictures of us. We have like... none! So we signed up to take pictures with Devon Michelle Photography. You've heard me say this before, but it's amazing the connections God makes! Devon was an amazing photographer and when we got to talking I admitted that I have a little shutter bug and she offered to take me on one of her shoots! I immediately took her up on the offer and joined her for a baby shoot, followed by a toddler shoot at my favorite, Hello Cupcake!

Devon was unbelievably helpful, gracious, and especially good at time management! I learned a lot seeing how she works; how she interacted with her clients, how she took charge to get things done. I really hope I can incorporate what she taught me into my own business (when I launch it one day...).

As far as my pictures at the shoot, I was underwhelmed. Which led me to the decision to buy a new camera!

After that day she apparently wasn't fed up with me and even offered to let me join her for a wedding a few weeks later!

What an experience that was. I don't know that I will get into weddings, but again I learned so much! What was impressed upon me was planning! Devon was so organized with her iPhone keeping track of what shots we wanted to get and what needed to happen when. I thought it went very smoothly! The whole experience may have given me a false sense of "I can do this!" between Devon's organization and the wonderful bride we had! The bride was so bubbly, patient, accommodating, fun, and she created the most gorgeous feel for her wedding!

(sigh) I am just so thankful for Devon's guidance, her graciousness, and that God brought us together!

When you have a family this beautiful, it is so easy to take pictures! Yet with the pressure I put on myself I worry that I won't do them justice! They are probably used to having nice photos of themselves so I wonder "how can I make them look their BEST?!" ;)

All shallowness aside, the Ficek's are a wonderful couple, great parents and I really enjoyed hanging out with them. I was really struck with how involved dad wanted to be, it was fantastic! Thank you so much, Ficek family, for being my guinea pigs and for being so flexible!!

I had the priviledge of taking this gorgeous girl's senior pictures. She was so sweet and accomodating, even willing to climb up on the train in her stilleto boots! What an ideal model. I can't believe how blue her eyes are. I'm not sure I did them justice!

We had a goal of getting certain "looks" she wanted (train track, grass, headshot). We were chasing the sunset so we set up a second day to finish our shoot. I love that for the second day she suddenly had long hair! I think it suits her very well.

I cannot tell you how special this girl is. Aside from being adorable, she is kind, virtuous, talented, diligent and hilarious! We had so much fun shooting her senior photos. The cowgirl theme is all her. She wanted a tractor and it just so happened that at the location we went to there was a tractor! I had been there a million times and never realized it was there. It worked out great. Love you, Katherine!

Beginnings...

So here it is, my very first post on my photography blog. With much prodding from my sweet, encouraging husband, and against my better judgment, I am putting my stuff out there. So I have to begin with my beautiful high school girls, Alyssa and Katherine. These lovely ladies, whom I mentor through church, have been my patient models since I first got my DSLR. They have braved the cold with me, the dirt, and various long pauses as I fiddle with my settings. I couldn't have pursued this passion without them!
